Far from being exclusive to the theatre performance anxiety can strike anyone who is doing anything in which self worth is invested and negative evaluation feared.
They will think I'm no good if I mess this up.
If I don't get this right it means I'm a failure.
I'm going to screw this up and everybody will laugh at me!
These are the kind of thoughts that may go through the mind and the knock on effects on the body will be some or all of the following:
Increase in heartbeat.
Increase in respiration.
Change in blood pressure.
Bowel and bladder distress.
These are some of the symptoms of performance anxiety; its alleviation is through a combination of CBH and Mindfulness.
